We love this deli and grocery. The food is fresh and there are some truly gourmet options. We usually all order a custom sandwich (Proscuitto is my go-to), and add a lovely side salad to round out the order. Make no mistake: this isn't subway. This is truly a top-of-the-line deli experience, with a dessert selection that's worth the trip alone. Lemon cheesecake, Tiramisu, the list goes on and on (actually it doesn't because it's all fresh so get there early). We used DePalo quite a bit whilst staying in Monterey, everything from coffee, croissants, fruit and bolognese was served fresh and presented very well. Also every time service came with a smile.
We were SO lucky to stumble onto this place. Visited 5 times in a 3 day stay for breakfasts and takeout lunches for picnics elsewhere. Real Italian deli specialties and much more. Great bakery. Handmade sandwiches. Lots of wine. Not cheap, but treat yourself! Most other eating in Pismo area was so so. This place stands out. And thanks Christina behind the sandwich counter!
This is a lovely market with everything you need for a picnic and more. We got sandwiches and the bread was very disappointing - very, soft and fluffy (sourdough!) or very hard (ciabatta). the salads were great.
Great shop for deli food, hotel needs, snacks and wine! I got some specialty soaps and hand cream for a gift and the wine selection was really fabulous
My husband and I stopped in for some snacks and wine. I was very impressed with the selections. The Garlic Shrimp in white wine sauce were my absolute favorite. I purchased them everyday of my vacation!
we had the minestrone and it's walking distance from our hotel - perfect. we also got marshmallows and skewers there for the fire pit!
For me, it is a stable, the Lasagna with Ricotta and Grace's marinara. $24 bucks, refrigerated, lasts a week very well, providing daily squares for my consumption. A-travelling camper, could also find good use, as well as the father of five, with an oven or stove. Mighty good!
Had a take out deli lunch and it was excellent as usual. This trip had the Turkey Roma sandwich on Ciabatta with some cranberry. Very tasty and somewhat different. Not huge but still big enough to split for lunch with a bag of chips. Store is filled with great wines, local beer and wonderful cookies, cheeses and extras. Only negative is it is a little pricey. Friendly staff and helpful.
My wife and I always stop into De Palo & Sons prior to going to any vineyards. Grab a cooler and go to the back deli, and order some amazing food. After enjoying a tasting at your favorite winery or vineyard, ask if you may bring in outside food and picnic. Most wineries or vineyards may require you to buy a bottle which you can enjoy while eating a fantastic lunch. My favorites are the caprese salad, olive tapenade and the Loui's love sandwich. The fresh cheeses, breads, beer and wine selection make De Palo & Sons a must stop at for us.
